Unfortunately, he's not one to bother with reading directions when he thinks something should just work when you plug it in or turn it on. So I decided to try them out and use them for work. My first call via Teams and I heard mostly robotic sounds instead of human voices. Pulled out the quick start guide and saw that step 1 is to plug in the USB RF dongle, step 2 is to load the ICUE software, step 3 is to update firmware. That's the moment I understood why hubby said they didn't work for calls on his computer. Welp...... 3 steps later, they are working fine.I'm usually an earbud or one ear headphone person. But overear headphones have much better noise cancellation capabilities than earbuds do and these are no exception. The noise cancellation is superb. I work from home and we had the roof replaced. These were excellent at significantly muffling the external noise. Others on the call said that they could not hear the background noise either.My earbuds are high end earbuds. This pair of headphones gives them a run for their money - once they are set up properly. The Dolby Atmos is superb when listening to a device that supports it. The headset also personalizes the headset to your preferences. Going through the SoundID set up results in a much better sound than before doing so.The controls are robust, though the quick start guide is thorough, it's not organized by button. Instead, it's organized by function with the button identified in the paragraph explaining the function. Otherwise the instructions are clear.Battery life is quite good.The cons: They are heavy. They are also limited in how small they will close. This makes it impossible to shift one ear up higher as some do to leave one ear at least partially uncovered. If you have a small head, these may not fit.I'm not a gamer, so I can't comment on performance during games.Overall Impression: An excellent headset if you can afford the price. After about an hour of wearing the headset your ears will hurt. Especially if you have glasses like I do. The mic sidetone is broken. Every time I turn the side tone on all I hear is loud buzzing. After using the headset for more than a few hours the right side starts making clicking noises. Yesterday while in game the right headphone cut out something like 90% of its volume. I had to restart the headset and this issue went away. Seems like a driver fix but good luck updating anything on corsair's icue software. Every time you try to update the headset it fails. Overall it's a good headset, but there's a lot of driver/ software issues with it right now and it's really buggy. Plus the comfort is a 1/10 with these terrible ear cups. Wait for driver updates and for someone to start selling a better aftermarket set of ear cups. I am a big fan of the over the ear headphones. These have a good quality build, but the foam is a little stiff. They are on the heavy side. It is comfortable around the ears, but the stiff headband is uncomfortable over long stretches. I have short hair so there isn’t any cushion, and I have to adjust it occasionally or add cushion. The design is sturdier than others. I have several different brands that have broken at the connection between the cup and band. This has a strong metal Y-shaped bracket holding the cups, which is not prone to the same issues. The sound is great. The sound stage is immersive and give a 3 dimensional feel. I have several headphones in this price range and this is my favorite for movies and gaming. With the strong bass it is a fun pair to listen to music. One downside I have noticed is that sometimes with the usb receiver I get a crackle in the background, which I am not sure if this is from the battery getting low or signal interference. I use the microphone sparingly but tried it for the review. It provided clear voice that felt present rather than a distant sound that some headphones produce. This felt more than sufficient for gaming and would work well for conference calls. The case is larger but also sturdy. I like the dual connection option with the usb receiver and Bluetooth. The noise cancellation feels seamless probably because the cups have good isolation by themselves so you don’t have that sudden drop you get in other headphones when it becomes active. I also haven’t experienced drops in the ANC, which I have experienced in other headphones.
